There are plenty of changes happening to the Australia migration programme on 1 July 2017. A summary of 1 July 2017 changes by the DIBP.
Age requirements from 50 t0 45 for a number of visas!
At the time of application
- Subclass 186 Employer Nomination Scheme Direct Entry stream
- Subclass 187 Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Direct Entry stream
At the time of invitation to apply
- Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated
- Subclass 489 Skilled Regional Sponsored
- Subclass 189 Skilled Independent
A maximum age requirement of 50 at the time of application will continue to apply to Temporary Residence Transition Stream applicants.
- When applying for a subclass 187 RSMS or subclass 186 ENS under the Temporary Resident Transition stream the English requirement at the time of application is now raised to Competent English (IELTS 6.0 in all components, or equivalent).
- English exemption for high salary positions REMOVED - Subclass 186 and 187 visas. This will affect all new applications ANDapplications submitted before 1 July 2017 but have yet to be finalised.
- English exemptions for high salary positions modified - Subclass 457 visa
*** The English language exemption for high salary positions will now be only available for applicants who are employed by companies operating an established overseas business.
Changes to the MLTSS, STSOL and RSMS Occupation Lists
Legislative instruments have been released for the revised occupations lists. We will be reviewing the legislative instruments and publish a separate blog about the changes in the occupation lists.
Changes by December 2017
Before 31 December 2017, for permanent employer sponsored skilled visa programmes:
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (the Department) will commence the collection of Tax File Numbers for these visa holders, and data will be matched with the Australian Tax Office’s records to ensure that visa holders are not paid less than their nominated salary. – The Department will commence the publication of details relating to sponsors sanctioned for failing to meet their obligations under the Migration Regulation 1994 and related legislation.
Changes from March 2018
For the Subclass 186 ENS and Subclass 187 RSMS visa: The MLTSSL will now apply, with additional occupations available to support regional employers for the RSMS.
Minimum market salary rate: Employers must pay the Australian market salary rate and meet the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold.
Residency: The permanent residence eligibility period will be extended from two to three years.
Work experience: At least three years’relevant work experience.
Age: All applicants must be under the maximum age requirement of 45 at the time of application.
Training requirement: a strengthened training requirement for employers to contribute towards training Australian workers.
