Vocational Education & Training
Whether you’re looking to move straight into the workforce, or to take an initial step into your tertiary education, an Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification can take you where you want to be.
Vocational means “work” or “career”, so Vocational Education and Training (VET) is focused on education and training for work roles.
In general, VET study:
- offers a variety of certificates and diplomas;
- develops professional and personal skills, that are closely linked with industry;
- develops career paths through a mix of study and practical work;
- generally combines classroom study as well as hands-on training;
- is competency based whereby students must demonstrate skills to gain a qualification.
Australia’s VET sector is based on a partnership between governments and industry. VET qualifications are provided by government institutions, called Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions, as well as private institutions. Industry and employer groups contribute to training policies and priorities, and in developing qualifications that deliver skills to the workforce.
VET may complement secondary studies or be undertaken in place of secondary schooling after Year 10. VET may be school-based, undertaken through a TAFE or through a registered training organisation. VET may also contribute to senior secondary certification, a trade qualification or be undertaken for personal reasons.

Many of our VET courses incorporate a period of on-site learning, which means you don’t just learn in a classroom, but get priceless industry experience in a genuine working environment. It’s real-world industry experience that ensures your qualifications fully prepare you for employment in your chosen industry.
